Last night’s American Music Awards was a three-hour romp that went everywhere from power-packed performances to x-rated gyrations.
So here’s the good, the bad and the ugly:
The Black Eyed Peas proved why they’re at the top of the record charts with a show-stopping medley of tunes that featured Fergie’s powerful vocals, the band’s intricate choreography and the band’s amazing blend of hip-hop, pop and electro tunes.
Every time Lady Gaga hits TV she has to outdo herself with costumes and theatrics. This time around, the performer showed off her new single “Bad Romance,” smashed a plate glass window — and ended the set by playing a piano that appeared to be on fire. Oh yeah, she went there.
Green Day also showed why its at the top of the indie rock game with a blazing rock set, Alicia Keyes and Jay-Z also did a great job of melding melody and rap with their ode to New York, and Rihanna made an interesting comeback with her laser-filled rock and soul set. Loved the lasers on the costume.
And then there was Adam Lambert.
I realize “New Moon” is taking over the media, but the “American Idol” finalist decided to take the campy vampire trend to a new level at the AMA’s.
Dressed in a military-meets-Goth outfit Lambert glammed and hammed it up for his entire “For Your Entertainment” number, but he decided to take things a bit far with grinding up against his dancers and several other near x-rated stage antics. Madonna and Lady Gaga can pull this stuff off with some class, but Lambert was class-less.
In the end, Taylor Swift and her all-American girl personna walked off with most of the awards.
