Phish plays Telluride Aug. 9-10

The city of Telluride faced an interesting dilemma.  

Should Telluride let a horde of Phish fans swarm into the mountain town — and let them bring in all the cash they’d need to spend in the secluded area of the state?

The city voted yes to the idea, so now Phish will play two dates in Telluride.

Phish is now set to play Telluride Town Park on Aug. 9-10. The band’s going to be on the road a lot this summer. The tour starts July 1 in Raleigh, NC and ends Aug. 17-18 with two dates at Long Island’s  Nikon Theater at Jones Beach.

This is the ticket deal: according to the band’s publicist, an online ticket request period is currently going on at at: http://phish.com and ends Friday, March 26.  Then, tickets go on sale to the general public starting Friday, April 2.

And there’s more Phish news — the band’s new film ”Phish 3D” hits theaters in April.

3OH!3's playing "American Idol" Wednesday with Ke$ha

This season’s “American Idol” was starting to look a little bleak. OK, it was getting really boring.

Last week, TV fans voted off Colorado’s two female contestants. Now the pack’s been trimmed down to singers that should be trying out for karaoke  nights instead of vying for a record deal.

But wait. Colorado is coming to the rescue.

Yes, Boulder’s dynamic electro duo 3OH!3 will be appearing on Wednesday’s “American Idol” with pop star Ke$ha. No doubt, the trio will be performing its hit tune “Blah Blah Blah.”

Can’t wait to see Simon Cowell’s reaction to the Boulder boys. Hey, at least they have talent.

Lady Gaga announces summer arena tour -- plays Denver's Pepsi Center on July 28

Lady Gaga’s coming to Denver!

Yes, it’s true. The new dates for Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour have been announced — and Denver made the cut!

This will mark the first time that Lady Gaga’s headlining arenas through North America. The tour starts June 28 in Montreal and ends Sept. 19 in Raleigh, NC. Those people are never gonna know what hit ‘em.

The outrageous pop princess will also be making a tour stop at Denver’s Pepsi Center on July 28. No word on tickets yet, but Live Nation’s promoting the show. The website says for now tickets are unavailable, yet.

The Monster Ball’s expected to be a flamboyant production that’s “more of a musical, and less of a concert,”  according to Gaga. Whatever it will be, you know this will be a first-class stage show complete with unbelievable costumes and flawless choreography.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings play etown Tuesday.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are making a special visit to Boulder’s etown.

The soul and funk band will stop off at Tuesday’s etown show at the Boulder Theater to bring their special brand of music to town. The band will also be showing off tune from its new CD.

The Experience Music Project in Settle calls for a rock 'n' roll road trip

It’s time for spring break. So, where are you going to go this year?

How ’bout taking a rock ‘n’ roll road trip.

The Daily compiled info on some of the coolest music sites  and cities to check out in America — including places to visit in Seattle, NYC and LA. You might even want to trek to Cleveland (!?) to check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The White Stripes new movie shows March 15 at CU Boulder

The White Stripes’ new rockumentary DVD, “Under Great White Northern Lights” is coming to CU Boulder.

The CU Program Council’s booked a campus showing of the movie for Monday, March 15 at Old Main. The historic building should provide a cool setting for watching the DVD.   Showtime is 7 p.m.

But, here’s the special perk.

The Colorado Daily is hosting a contest in association with the film’s release — and you can win an official copy of the DVD’s 208-page photo book. I just saw it, and it looks very impressive!

DJ Rehka plays the Glenn Miller Ballroom Tuesday in a free show

 Everybody loves a free concert!

That’s why students and locals will be heading over to CU’s Glenn Miller Ballroom to catch the free Miramontes Music and Arts Festival concert. The event is being sponsored by the CU Program Council and campus group CEB.

The show takes place tonight and it will feature the very innovative DJ Rehka, Eisley and Daniella Cotton. The special guest on the bill can now be announced  — and its Boulder’s own Paper Bird.

No need for tickets. Just head over to the Glenn Miller Ballroom — located in CU’s University Memorial Center and catch the free show. The performances start at 7 p.m.

Gregory Alan Isakov plays the Fox Theatre tonight

Boulder singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov is going to try something new at tonight’s Fox Theatre show.

The local troubadour will be showing off a new musical collective idea at Friday’s show. The evening of singer-songwriters will feature Reed Foehl, Clay Rose, Ramaya Soskin and Bela Karoli.

Pretty Lights Plays a Sold Out Run of Colorado shows

Pretty Lights has created an artistic vision that goes beyond the scope of his music.

The Colorado electro act just sold out a string of Colorado shows that are taking place next week at the Aggie, Boulder, Fox, Ogden and Gothic theaters.

The local techno whiz made the decision to play smaller venues for this run. Pretty Lights’ founder Derek Smith wanted to create an ambience for his loyal fans in more intimate settings — and he promises that each Colorado show will offer an unique experience.

The White Stripes' new DVD "Under Great Northern Lights" is coming out March 16 -- and you can host a showing in your own house!

These days, bands have to gear up their marketing savvy.

That’s why the White Stripes came up with a very unique way to get the word out about its new DVD, “Under Great Northern Lights.”
