This weekend Umphrey’s McGee gave its fan two choices — they could go for a cheaper ticket and just attend tonight’s Fillmore Auditorium show in Denver. Or, they could splurge and get a two-day pass that bought them entry into last night’s Boulder Theater show.
Those who bought the two-day pass made the right decision — ’cause it was truly an amazing visual and listening experience to catch a band of this caliber at the Boulder Theater.
Umphrey’s played a few new songs Friday , but the group made the right decision not to overwhelm the crowd with a barrage of new tunes.
It almost didn’t matter what albums Umphrey’s picked Friday’s song selection from — the concert was one cohesive flow of prog rock and jam-infused tunes that had the entire Boulder Theater on its feet and dancing.
And talk about a light show. Club Notes votes Umphrey’s the best light show experience since Ghostland Observatory brought its laser light show to town last April.
The Boulder Theater staff said it took four hours for the Umphrey’s crew to put up all the lighting equipment. The venue’s audience was well-rewarded with a light show that constantly changed up and was in perfect sync with the tunes.
If you scored the two-day Umphrey’s pass, then you’ll be ready for round two of the music and light show party at the Fillmore tonight.
