Guitarist Tim Reynolds will be playing to arena crowds this summer when he takes the stage as the Dave Matthews Band new guitarist.
However, he got to play for a much more intimate crowd at the Fox Theatre in Boulder Wednesday.
It’s a big week for concerts in Boulder, and Reynolds and his new band TR3 were sandwiched inbetween sold out shows for STS9′s PA set and two sold out State Radio concerts, so the crowd was thin, at best.
That didn’t stop Reynolds and TR3 from putting on an energetic and varied show.
Reynolds made some good choices picking the new members of TR3 and the group easily went from acoustic, rootsy-numbers to full tilt prog rock tunes. Reynolds seemed the happiest when he dunned a pair of futuristic, shiny-blue sunglasses and blazed into his experimental rock numbers.
It may have been a small crowd at the Fox, but all those fans are going to have bragging rights when they’re standing with thousands of people at a Dave Matthews’ tour stop. Those hundred or so people can tell their friends they saw Reynolds pull out all the stops for an intimate crowd.
