The Samples were one of the original Colorado bands to put the state on the map.
The group started up in 1987 in Boulder, and went on to score major record deals and headlining spots on tours –and became known nationally. However, the five original members haven’t played together in a very long time.
That’s why it’s so great that the five original members will re-unite for a special set at this year’s Mile High Music Festival. Yes, that means Sean Kelly, Jeep MacNichol, Charles Hambleton, Al Laughlin and Andy Sheldon will all play the same Colorado stage for the first time since the early 90’s.
Read the Colorado story about The Samples getting together to play the Mile High Festival. The fest runs Aug. 14-15, and The Samples are playing on the 14th. http://www.coloradodaily.com/music-news/ci_14826069
Locals will be very familiar with the rest of the Mile High line-up. The main headliners are the Dave Matthews Band and Jack Johnson. Other acts on the two-day bill include My Morning Jacket, Atmosphere, Slightly Stoopid, Phoenix, Bobby Long, Matt Morris, Bassnectar and Keller Williams.
Have you seen many of these bands before? Probably. That’s why adding The Samples to the bill is adding some excitement to the two-day fest.
Tickets for the Mile High Music Festival go on sale Saturday. There are a couple of tiers of tickets with two-day passes going for an Early Bird special of $150, advance tix going for $175, and regular tix going for $200. The fest is also selling VIP tix for $399.
