All good things come to an end, but music fans were hoping that The White Stripes would stick around for awhile.
Nope. Today, Jack White and Meg White said The White Stripes were over. That translates to the band breaking up, no new records and no more live shows.
The band issued a statement that said, “It’s for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.”
The White Stripes went on to thank fans, and said that Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased and studio recordings from the White Stripes.
The band concluded by saying: “The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing our experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”
No doubt, both Whites will be busy with other projects, but it is a sad day for the music biz.
